The Education Committee of the NAACP established the Ethel K. Mills Achievement Awards Night to honor the accomplishments of students of color in our community.
Named for the beloved and respected principal at the Rosenwald School, the awards recognize: Principal’s awards; perfect attendance; A/B honor roll listings; level 4 and 5 proficiency on state exams; college readiness on the PreACT; success in honors- or AP-level high school courses and dual-enrollment college courses; attainment of national or industry credentials in Career/Technical Education courses; specialized diploma endorsements; and scholarship awards.
Planned as an annual community event, the formal Awards Night was cancelled in August due to Covid restrictions. Awards were given to students at Brevard High School this month; elementary and middle school students will receive their awards at their schools next month.
Elementary award recipients are: Jeremiah Avery, Dreamer Hope-Owenby, Keiron Obson, and DeaJai Robinson.
