First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
—German Pastor Martin Niemöller
We are living in a moment of U.S. history fraught with the danger of white Christian nationalism. Members of the Religious Affairs Committee of Transylvania County’s NAACP, including CSW Director Rob Field, have prepared 4 short videos (20-25 minutes each) about white Christian nationalism. The creators of this series want our neighbors to be alert to this current threat to the safety and well-being of all Americans, regardless of race, gender, or religious affiliation.
These videos are intended to be a resource for discussion and civil discourse
Join Rob Field for a 4-week online series beginning Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 PM (via Zoom). Each session will last 1 hour and 15 minutes, featuring a locally-produced video followed by an engaging discussion. Together, we’ll explore the content, reflect on key insights, and deepen our understanding through thought-provoking questions.
Weekly Topics:
September 11: What is white Christian nationalism?
September 18: Why emphasize the “white” in Christian nationalism?
September 25: What does “Christian” mean in this context?
October 2: What’s the difference between “patriotism” and “nationalism”?
The participants in the videos are a team of 11 mostly Christian women and men — white, black, straight, gay, and older (50+). One is a somewhat younger black man, another is a Jewish neighbor and friend. Each video has 3 to 4 speakers.
Although there is no charge to participate, donations are appreciated. Suggested donation amounts are $8.00 per person per session or $25.00 for the entire 4-week series. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.
