Carle Wilson Jr was active in the Brevard Little Theater in the 1960s and 1970s as an actor and director and was the first to bring live theater to Brevard’s Black community through a production of “A Raisin in the Sun” at the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center in the early 1970s. “Raisin” was so well received that it was followed by other productions. Carle was responsible for other BLT productions such as “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Little Foxes.” But his love of theater didn’t stop there. He proudly hosted movie night at Silvermont, featuring classic movies, mostly silent and in black and white.

Carle also loved music, especially classical and jazz. He sang with the Transylvania County Choral Society, Brevard Chamber Singers, and the Reynolds-Miller Choral Society in Asheville. His longest singing tenure was in the choir at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Brevard, where he contributed his rich baritone for over forty years and served as Choir Director for many years?

He was an avid reader and lifelong student. Carle enjoyed being a substitute teacher and participating in the Transylvania County School’s Science Fair as a judge. He was a veteran, having served in the US Air Force, and didn’t shy away from civic duties. He enjoyed being actively involved in local elections as a precinct judge and also served on the Western Carolina University Board of Trustees.

This Fund has been established by friends of Carle Wilson Jr.

Donations to the fund are encouraged and very much appreciated!
